Pearl Clarke

- Vocals -

Pearl Clarke was born in Fresno, California on June 1, 1927. Pearl's father, Ramon Garcia, was from Jalisco, Mexico. Her earliest influences were the Spanish/Mexican folk songs she heard as a child.

Her step father was from Argentina and she became aware of the Tango at an early age. As she grew up she got excited by the Swing Era and became an award winning swing dancer. Harry James, the trumpeter, was her favourite band leader, along  with Benny Goodman and Woody Herman.

Her sister, Mela, was an exceptional singer as a youth and was considered the singer of the family.

Pearl (Freddy's mother), started singing seriously after Freddy became fluent on the guitar and inspired her to sing the songs on this recording.

I hope you enjoy hearing these recordings as much as I enjoyed recording them.
